Abstract For university students, social media functions beyond a mere interaction platform; it serves as a coping mechanism for managing personal issues and academic pressures. This study aims to examine the impact of social media usage as a coping strategy on student mental health, specifically focusing on stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms. Utilizing a quantitative approach with a simple linear regression model, the research involved 388 participants selected through purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted using various instruments, including coping strategy scales, academic stress and anxiety measures, and the PHQ-9 questionnaire. The results of the regression analysis indicate that utilizing social media for coping significantly affects student stress levels, as evidenced by a significance value (p) of 0.000 0.05 and an R-squared value of 0.413 (41.3%). Similarly, this coping method shows a significant influence on anxiety levels, with a p-value of 0.000 0.05 and an R2 of 0.452 (45.2%). Conversely, social media-based coping does not significantly impact depressive symptoms, given the significance value of 0.247 > 0.05 and an R2 of only 0.003 (0.3%). Consequently, while social media as a coping strategy influences stress and anxiety among students, it demonstrates no substantial effect on symptoms of depression.

This study analyzes the use of the TikTok application and its influence on the religious behavior of Muslim youth in Sukadana Ilir Village, Bunga Mayang District, North Lampung. The focus of the study was directed at late adolescents aged 17–21 who use TikTok as part of their daily routine. The research approach was qualitative with a case study, using in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation of five informants. The results showed that TikTok is used primarily for entertainment to relieve boredom, follow trends, and obtain light information. Although there is da'wah content and spiritual motivation that has the potential to have a positive impact, the dominant findings indicate a stronger negative impact, particularly in terms of decreased religious discipline, neglect of prayer obligations, and reduced socio-religious involvement. Adolescents are more interested in entertainment content than da'wah content, so religious understanding is not a priority. This study confirms that TikTok has a significant influence on adolescents' religious behavior, especially when there is a lack of self-control and family guidance. These findings are expected to form the basis for digital literacy education for parents, educators, and educational institutions to guide the use of TikTok in a healthier and more religiously valuable way.
